I think it just happens on bad days and "home" actually means your safe spot, whether it's your childhood home, on the couch next to your mom, or the first apartment you shared with your husband. It's just the comfort of the familiar and safe.

Sometimes, you just need a good cry with a blanket.Katehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05176181338251216647noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8264158595683111355.post-61374246255757693202012-07-20T14:21:29.998-04:002012-07-20T14:21:29.998-04:00"It's so much more than that, but nobody ..."It's so much more than that, but nobody wants a 5-minute explanation when they ask where you're from."

Well, if they care, they'll listen.

On facebook, there's a place where it says "hometown" I've never been able to put in a city there.

I just accept it. I think that makes me special.
And you're right, home is where your husband is.

Before I was with David and Edwin, home was where my computer was ;)

Being a TCK, I'll never have a hometown. The Cubs were exactly what I was thinking of, you know. :) I have totally lost track since I moved because it's not on TV/radio here or nobody talks about them or anything. So it's hard to keep up being so far out of the loop and being not-naturally-sports-inclined. And I, of course, miss going to the games every now and then....I like soaking up the atmosphere (and trying to keep up with what is actually going on in the game too). :)

If anything particularly exciting happens...like if they ever are heading towards the World Series...will you please make sure you email me to tell me? I would hate to miss it.Adventures Along The Wayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10797973779310198830noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8264158595683111355.post-11717113226481232892012-07-10T15:58:18.534-04:002012-07-10T15:58:18.534-04:00Don't worry, the Cubs still suck, so you'r...Don't worry, the Cubs still suck, so you're not really missing out on that aspect of life in Chicago by not being here.Mike Maloneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09293592756387294116noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8264158595683111355.post-7473693523199920022012-07-06T09:16:00.837-04:002012-07-06T09:16:00.837-04:00Hi greyandshiny,

It's about expats that live in another country and move between the expat community and the local community, but I learned a lot about myself when I read it (even though I lived in other cultures first as an adult). Anyhow, there's a lot that applies to cross-cultural situations that aren't necessarily "third culture."

And I like reading when you write about your cultural (and linguistic) identity. :)Adventures Along The Wayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10797973779310198830noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8264158595683111355.post-72663100245266175912012-07-05T12:19:00.066-04:002012-07-05T12:19:00.066-04:00Oh that hit me hard. I was born in Finland and spent just long enough there for it to become an enormous part of my identity (11 years) but have since lived in Vancouver- and I can literally *feel* every sentence here. About being divided, feeling that longing for you don't even know what, and not knowing where you're really from.

It's a complicated mess of emotions that are always in the background of life and you wrote about it beautifully.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
