Non-green thumb.

Apparently basil is easy to grow. And all I was trying to do was maintain a healthy plant S bought. I used to be okay with plants...until a few years ago when I tried to reduce my aloe plants because they were overtaking my apartment. Ever since then, I have been horrible with plants. Maybe the aloe is getting back at me?

  1. Haha... Don't worry... In these containers, these basil plants never last, unless you plant them outside... They just don't like it inside: they need LOTS of sun, and somehow inside the humidity level is never quite right. It's always the same at our house.

  2. Dude, who told you that basil is easy? Basil is super finicky. It is definitely easy to kill. Try oregano or mint or parsley and it will grow like a weed, I promise. :)

  3. Oh, thanks for the encouragement! The internet told me it was easy to grow... Maybe it is possible the internet is not always right? ;)

  4. I think I might try growing some herbs again after we move... though it might be seasonally a bad time...?

  5. Melissa grew basil last year on our deck and had quite a bit of success with it. I should get her to comment on her experience.

  7. I think I just lucked out with our basil, and couldn't get it to stop growing! I really think the fact that we had ours outside on the deck, which gets lots of sunlight was key. Also, I often (weekly) picked off all the buds when they got mature, so they'd regrow (not sure if that's technical gardening language!).

  8. I am a bad indoor plant killer - looks like all my plants! I even managed to kill someones very expensive and very old bonsai tree while they were away - I felt so bad about that one.

  9. Mrs. T: Oops for the bonsai tree! Did they react okay? Thankfully very few people have ever asked me to plant sit...

  10. Melissa and Marie-Ève: Maybe I should try growing Basil outside, if I ever have a space to try that...? Let's hope our still-to-be-found new place to live will have a space for that...
