Well, it's clearly not over, this rebellion of my belongings.
My computer arrived at work today, and since I wasn't working today at the office, I drove to pick it up so I would have a back-up plan if my old computer decides to stop working again before the translation is finished. I had my coins ready to stick in a meter, but no metered spots were available near my office. Then I saw there was a loading zone spot. I thought, huh, I am here to pick up something for 2 minutes, this is exactly what this spot is for! So I parked and ran in to get the computer and was back out super quickly. I was unlocking the passenger door to put the computer in, and my key broke off in the lock.
So. I had locked all the doors and the hatchback (I used to live in Chicago, after all!) and I only have one set of spare car keys which were back at home. And I was in a loading zone parking place. I started crying.
I go back to the office (in tears), and my colleague tried to unlock the door with a ruler and wire, but it didn't work so he said will make a note to stick in the wipers. I took a cab home to get the second set of keys. Thankfully, I got back with the keys before receiving a ticket. So at least there's that. And the fact that I knew exactly where the spares were.
Can you even get copies of car keys made? Will I have to change out the whole lock system to have a spare? Anyone know?
Now I am drinking a mint mocha coffee I got for Christmas, trying to calm down before diving into the translation.
And I don't plan on leaving the house again until tomorrow. Maybe next week will return to normal?
