Veggie "sushi" attempt.

A while back, we had a try-to-make-veggie-"sushi"-at-home night. It turned out okay, but not great. S did get quite good at rolling though, and I hope to try it again this summer and make some improvements on the sushi rice and overall flavor combinations. Any suggestions?

PS. I realize "veggie" sushi isn't Real Sushi, but I like it.

  1. Oooh looks like you did pretty well! Sushi is a challenge, especially making the sushi rice. The second time we made sushi at home (also veggie sushi) we actually bought the rice from a nearby sushi restaurant. Ok, so that's totally cheating, but it worked out to be a whole lot easier overall. Oh and you've got to have a bowl of warm water nearby for keeping your fingers clean.

  2. You're buying rice sounds like a good solution! :) We will probably try the rice again with a different recipe. And yes to the bowl of water. It is quite messy to roll! What did you put in your veggie sushi?

  3. Strawberries and cream cheese? (My favourite sushi combo, with smoked salmon though!)
    Avocado, red onion and mango?
    Basil, cucumber and grated carrot?
Julienned sweet potato and red onion?

    Mmm... now I want sushi!

  4. Ooo, check out the recipe for "pecan pate" sushi here: http://iamglutenfree.blogspot.com/2007/05/sushi-to-max.html

With avocado, red pepper, bean sprouts and miso... yum!
